Nothing beats Noddy and Slade when it comes to Christmas tunes

Published:

Whisper it quietly, but Slade are a more popular band this Christmas time than both Queen and Michael Jackson.

Well, that was the outcome in today’s Ladbrokes News poll in which we asked you to tell us which festive number one was your favourite of all time.

And it’s Noddy Holder’s brummie squealings of “Iiiiiiitttttt’s Christmaaaaaaasssssss!!” that have got the voters in the Christmas spirit.

Slade’s Merry Xmas Everybody picked up more than half of the votes (53 per cent to be precise) to run away with the poll, ahead of a rather different offering.

While the winner was an intentional Christmas release, tapping into the spirit of the season, the second most popular in our vote was rather different.

Punted as an alternative option to yet another X-Factor offering, Rage Against the Machine’s Killing in the Name Of topped the charts in 2009.

Zack De La Rocha and Co picked up 27 per cent of the vote to take the silver medal in our poll to be crowned a clear second.

We switch genres once again and don the puffer jackets as East 17 came in third with 13 per cent of the votes for Stay Another Day, while Queen quite preposterously only garnered seven per cent of the votes for the classic that is Bohemian Rhapsody.

While the legendary band might feel hard done by, that’s nothing compared to how the King of Pop fared.

With 1995 number one Earth Song attracting precisely zero votes, Michael Jackson finds himself at the very bottom of this particular poll.

If we can take anything out of the results it’s that at this time of the year people like nothing more than a proper Christmassy offering.
