Newcastle’s Track Championship team re-visit happy hunting ground

The final of this year’s BAGS Track Championship is upon us with six teams heading to Perry Barr for the pre-Christmas extravaganza.

There are 10 races in total and the scoring system remains the same as at the regional group stage.
Points are scored 10, 7, 5, 3, 2 and 1 for first to sixth places and we’re all set for a mouth-watering spectacle.
Teams from Towcester, Newcastle, Monmore, Hall Green, Romford and Belle Vue are set to descend upon the Midlands and it’s the connections from the north-east who could be celebrating at the event’s conclusion.
The bookies can’t seem to split Towcester and Newcastle with both priced up at 13/8 to land the spoils.
However, given the latter’s dominant victory at this circuit back in 2012 it’s worth banking on a similar outcome in the latest edition.
Hot juvenile Bramble Robson (T4, 2.08) has impressed over the same distance at his home track and clocked a none too shabby 28.45sec, including a 3.55sec sectional, in a recent trial at Perry Barr.
He could get the Geordies off to a flyer while the likes of Some Woman (T1, 2.47) could also help build-up a strong points total in the opening stages.
Meanwhile, two-bend speed demon Bramble Bruno (T6, 4.08) is another to watch out for ahead of a potentially crucial last leg for Elegant Lady (T3, 5.07).
The action will be fast and furious and it’s a tough contest to call with former winners Monmore lively outsiders and the remaining three kennels each harbouring their own ambitions.
