Newcastle next in the firing line for Everton’s in-form striker

Just two weeks ago Ladbrokes were offering the huge price of 500/1 on Romelu Lukaku breaking Jamie Vardy’s recent record for most consecutive Premier League games scored in, and it seems the Belgian is intent on making the traders sweat.
The Everton striker has now reached the seven game marker with his odds at a vastly reduced, yet still tempting, 40/1 to surpass Vardy’s tally.
And it’s probably fair to expect his run to continue for one more game at least with Newcastle the next side standing in his way.
The Toffees are priced up as 23/20 favourites to leave St James’ Park with the three points, but it is their star striker that can perhaps be relied on most.
Lukaku is 11/10 to find the back of the net and continue this fabulous run, and against the Premier League’s second leakiest defence, there’s no reason why he can’t do just that.
What’s more telling is the forward’s record against the north east outfit.
In six appearances against the Magpies, the 22-year-old has found the net on five occasions, his second best goals-per-game ratio against any club in the Premier League (against whom he has played more than three times).
Furthermore, his record against the Toon since joining Everton will have many Fantasy Football managers ensuring the former Chelsea man is in their team.
In four appearances in the blue of the Merseyside club, Lukaku has scored four goals and assisted in three others, as Roberto Martinez put a total of 11 goals past United.
He will certainly make sure he has ample opportunity to add to his already burgeoning tally of 13 strikes for the season, considering only Harry Kane has had more shots in the top-flight this season.
Steve McClaren will be optimistic that his side have turned a corner with two wins and a draw in their last three fixtures, but while they might escape with a point or three, it probably won’t be without a certain Belgian getting on the scoresheet.
