Meet the Dutch teen who could be Man United’s next global star

Manchester United are closing in on signing a teenage winger tipped to be the next Dutch superstar, according to reports.

The Red Devils have been closely monitoring the progress of 15-year-old Ajax ace Juan Familia-Castillo for the past 18 months and Louis van Gaal is expected to pounce when the youngster turns 16 in January.

Van Gaal will hope his standing in Dutch football will persuade the highly-rated winger – currently honing his craft in Ajax’s U17 side – to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Paul Pogba and Adnan Januzaj, who were both recruited by to Old Trafford at a similar age.

Check out Castillo strutting his stuff for Ajax’s youth sides:

Van Gaal is renowned for putting his faith in young players and has continued this at United where the likes of Jesse Lingard, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Axel Tuanzebe, Marcus Rashford and Sean Goss have all been given game time under the Dutchman.

Castillo, captain of the Holland U16 team, is certainly one for the future but with United struggling for goals this season Van Gaal is also expected to splash the cash on an established star.

Fanciful reports suggest the Dutchman is preparing a staggering £143.9m bid to lure Brazilian ace Neymar from Barcelona in the summer but with this season in mind a January swoop for a more realistic target could be in the offing.

United head to Wolfsburg tonight knowing that anything less than a win will likely see them dumped out of the Champions League and with captain Wayne Rooney absent through injury the onus is on Anthony Martial to fire his side to glory.

The Red Devils go into the game as 11/5 underdogs, with the hosts available at 13/10 and the draw priced up at 12/5.
