Man Utd faithful’s patience with Rooney and LvG is wearing thin

Published:

Nobody would question Wayne Rooney’s contribution to the Manchester United cause over the past decade and a bit, but there’s not much love around from the fans for their skipper after constant poor form during the season so far.

Simple stats back up Rooney’s sharp decline: two Premier League goals in 12 games this term, all starts. England forward rivals Jamie Vardy and Harry Kane have 14 and eight respectively.

For those who have been watching United regularly this season, the stats needn’t come into it. The ball seems to bounce off Rooney more often than not these days, with the 30-year-old usually a fraction of a second short of getting on the end of things.

Very few Red Devils fans on the twittersphere have anything nice to say about their on-the-field leader…

But then, there are a few hard sentiments circulating about the boss too…

That last one was surely designed to cut United fans deep.

The good news for the home support when West Ham visit Old Trafford is that their side have won both their Premier League fixtures without Rooney this term.

Man Utd are 4/9 to win the game, and 12/1 to repeat their 3-1 scoreline at home to Liverpool without Rooney earlier in the season.
