Liverpool look increasingly likely to write January cheques

Jurgen Klopp is clearly an intelligent soul and although his transfer bluffing is a commendable way of squeezing more out of the squad he inherited, Liverpool’s manager must surely have January recruitment in mind.
The morning papers are positively brimming with rumours connecting the Anfield club with potential mid-season targets.
While some of these reports may turn out to be pie in the sky, there are more than enough areas of concern within Klopp’s squad, who have flattered to deceived since the German’s arrival, to believe a few are genuine.
Here is a roundup of the latest names in the Reds frame:
Marko Grucic
The rising star of Serbian football looks destined for big things and going by all the speculation this autumn that will equate to a lucrative Premier League move, sooner rather than later.
The all-action Red Star Belgrade midfielder is only 19 and has apparently been courted by Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea, however, whispers (and some intriguingly-placed emoticons) suggest his preferred destination is Anfield.
With many similar types of players currently vying for spots in the Liverpool engine room, stealing a march on the competition by signing a true box-to-boxer could well be in Klopp’s interest.
Joel Matip
Schalke’s Cameroonian international centre-half is well known to Liverpool’s Bundesliga-winning boss, and Matip being out of contract next summer raises the ante for an imminent move.
Liverpool have been beset by injuries in the heart of defence as well this season, with both Mamadou Sakho and latterly Dejan Lovren currently crocked and veteran Kolo Toure also running a contract down this term.
Breel Embolo
Another teenage sensation making a splash in a lesser European league is Matip’s compatriot Embolo, who has notched eight times in 23 appearances foe Swiss champions Basel.
Formerly linked to Borussia Dortmund in Klopp’s time at the Signal Iduna Park, this adds some credence to the rumour.
However, even in light of Daniel Sturridge’s chronic availability issues, Divock Origi’s recent emergence alongside the huge summer outlay on Christian Benteke, would appear to render this chatter a little fanciful.
