Leicester lining up Premier League winner for January swoop

The naysayers are adamant that Leicester City’s incredible run this season is little more than a very long phase that will surely end with them crashing back down to Earth, but that’s not the feeling in the east Midlands.
The Foxes are riding high in the Premier League this term, topping the table on numerous occasions under Claudio Ranieri, while striker Jamie Vardy has scored himself into the Guinness Book of Records.
Leicester have rarely been off the back pages this season, but if the latest transfer murmurings are to be believed, Ranieri and co will be doing all they can to keep this improbable Premier League challenge going.
While the Italian manager may face a fight to keep hold of Vardy and the similarly in-form Riyad Mahrez when the transfer window opens next month, it appears Ranieri is keen to add numbers to his side rather than see players depart the King Power stadium.
High on the Tinkerman’s shopping list is former Premier League winning midfield general Nigel de Jong.
The Dutch international has fallen out of favour with AC Milan, appearing just five times this season across league and cup, but having just turned 31, Ranieri feels the ex-Hamburg man can still do the job in England.
De Jong was a mainstay at Manchester City for three and a half years, claiming a Premier League title, an FA Cup and a Community Shield during his time at Eastlands.
Well known for his crunching challenges and physical presence, De Jong would add some steel to Leicester’s midfield while providing quality cover for the excellent pairing of Danny Drinkwater and N’Golo Kante for the Foxes.
One day Leicester may wake from this dream, and they have Liverpool, Everton and Manchester City to face before 2015 is over, but this season is proving to be anything but traditional.
The addition of a World Cup finalist and Premier League winning midfielder would just make you wonder that little bit more if the Foxes could actually perform like this all season…
