Ladbrokes SPFL round-up: Dumbarton compound Alloa misery

The adverse weather was to blame for the serious lack in sporting entertainment in Scotland on Saturday, with all but three league games outside of the Ladbrokes Premiership wiped out.
Nevertheless, those fixtures that did go ahead added drama and a bit of desperation in the pursuit of glory in the Ladbrokes SPFL.
Here’s how the solitary game in each of the divisions played out…
The fixture at Recreation Park was billed as a ‘mustn’t lose’ encounter for Alloa Athletic who were pinned to the bottom the Championship.
Victory would have brought them within three points of opponents Dumbarton in eighth, but it just wasn’t to be for Danny Lennon’s side.
Two goals in the last 20 minutes, first from Mark Docherty and then Grant Gallagher were enough to give the Sons their first win since the start of October.
It also pushed out their price to finish bottom of the table from 4/1 to 8/1, while Alloa hardened as favourites (1/4 from 1/3).
Things don’t look a whole lot brighter for Brechin City in League 1, who were the latest victims of high-flying Dunfermline.
City dropped to their third straight defeat thanks to goals from Faissal El Bakhtaoui, Michael Paton and David Hopkirk, to give the Pars a 3-1 victory, with Isaac Layne bagging the goal for the away side.
Victory puts Allan Johnston’s men top on goal difference, but it also gave El Bakhtaoui his ninth goal of the season and first since October 3. The striker saw his price on landing the division’s Golden Boot cut from 9/2 to 10/3.
Another team building up a head of steam are Stirling Albion.
The Binos saw their price for League 2 glory halved from 16/1 to 8/1 after an excellent 3-1 win at the expense of Elgin City.
Craig Gunn put the visitors in front from the penalty spot, but the hosts hit back with Mark Lamont, Steven Dorris and Darren Smith firing Albion to victory.
The win was the fourth in six for Stuart McLaren’s men, while Elgin’s away form shows no sign of improving with seven defeats in their last eight on the road in all competitions.
There’s a long way to go, but that will need to improve if they are to act on their Ladbrokes League 2 promotion aspirations.
