Ladbrokes Premiership: St Johnstone to gatecrash top three

Published:

Celtic, Aberdeen and Hearts have had a monopoly on the top three places in the Ladbrokes Premiership for much of the season so far but St Johnstone could stake a claim for a European place with a win over the Jam Tarts this weekend.

Tommy Wright’s men host Robbie Nielson’s side in the standout tie of the weekend but there will be plenty of action elsewhere as the likes of Dundee United, Kilmarnock and Motherwell look to put some vital points on the board.

The Championship is given priority over the top flight this weekend as far as the TV coverage is concerned but there’s a full deck of Premiership games to get stuck into and here’s all you need to know…

Celtic v Motherwell

With the rigours of European football no longer zapping Celtic’s energy the Bhoys have been going about their business in imperious fashion in the league and are now unbeaten in 11 matches. Well, however, have won just once in four attempts and have failed to even score in six of their last eight meetings with the Hoops.
Best Bet: Celtic to win to nil @ 4/5

Dundee v Hamilton

Both sides approach this game in poor form with the Dees winless in eight and the Accies winning just one of their last eight. The two most recent meetings ended all square and with neither side showcasing much in the way of winning knowhow a share of the spoils could be on the cards once again.
Best Bet: Draw @ 9/4

Inverness CT v Dundee United

With just one win all season things are looking bleak for the Terrors and a trip to Inverness, who they haven’t beaten in six attempts, is unlikely to lighten the load. Miles Storey is in good form for Caley, with six strikes to his name and is likely to be the man doing the damage again here.
Best Bet: Storey to score anytime @ 7/5

Kilmarnock v Aberdeen

Kilmarnock and Aberdeen are polar opposites on current form with Killie winless in six and the Dons on a five game unbeaten run. Kilmarnock last been Derek McInnes’ men back in 2011 and with the visitors taking the last three of the last four meetings to nil another comfortable victory looks likely.
Best Bet: Aberdeen to win to nil @ 13/8

Partick Thistle v Ross County

Partick have picked up some steam of late, wining their last three games to move up the table and that run could well continue against an inconsistent Staggies side. County have lost three of their last five, but won the other two convincingly, beating Motherwell and Hamilton 3-0 and 3-1 respectively. Expect Thistle to win but don’t bank on the host having it all their own way.
Best Bet: Both teams to score and Partick to win @ 9/2

St Johnstone v Hearts

Hearts sit just a point above the Saints in third place but having drawn two and lost one of their last three games could surrender that place to Tommy Wright’s men this weekend. The hosts have lost just one of their last eight games and Hearts haven’t won at McDiarmid Park in three years.
Best bet: St Johnstone to win @ 6/4
