Get your wallet out Roman! It’s time for Chelsea to replace Costa

Jose Mourinho should be turning to his scouting team to find another striker once he ditches misfiring forward Diego Costa, according to a Ladbrokes poll.

We asked whether the Chelsea boss should cut his losses with the Spain international in the wake of bib-gate and the response was fairly comprehensive.

A total of 70 per cent of voters said now was the time for the champions to get rid of Costa, while just 30 per cent opted to suggest he deserved longer to return to form.

After a trail-blazing first season at Stamford Bridge in which his 20 goals fired the Blues to the title, finding the back of the net has been tricky this time round.

Bagging just three goals in a shoddy start to the season for the whole team, the former Atletico man found himself on the bench against Tottenham last Sunday.

Having warmed up, the forward took umbrage when his manager asked him to return to the substitute’s bench, taking off his training bib and throwing it in the direction of Mourinho.

‘The Special One’ laughed off matters in the post-match press conference, but it would be easy to think that any underlying rifts in the Blues camp could start to show.

Step forward Atletico Madrid. Diego Simeone’s men are reportedly interested in bringing the under-fire striker back to the Estadio Vicente Calderon in a £28m move and could pounce as soon as January.

The team sitting in 14th place in the Premier League might not be keen to sell unless there is a suitable replacement lined-up, but according to our readers, getting rid would be the best course of action.
