G Nev’s first Valencia signing might just be Leicester’s Jamie Vardy

He’s yet to lead his new team out at a match, but it appears Valencia boss Gary Neville has already been doing his homework ahead of the January transfer window.

Neville was announced as head coach at the Mestalla until the end of the season, but it was brother Phil who oversaw a 1-1 draw with Barcelona at the weekend.

The result, while no doubt a fine showing against Lionel Messi and co, does mean Valencia have scored just twice in their last four games – excluding a 3-1 Copa del Rey victory at minnows Barakaldo.

With La Liga big-hitter Alvaro Negredo enduring a troubled campaign, only Paco Alcacer has regularly found the net for Valencia this term and the papers are suggesting Neville knows a solution to the misfiring forward line.

Still topping the Premier League goalcharts despite his goal-scoring run coming to an end on Saturday, Jamie Vardy has become one of the most sought-after forwards in the UK.

The Leicester man has 14 goals from 15 games this term, and his constant pace and energy, often as a lone central striker has won plaudits on a weekly basis.

It appears G Nev is also a fan, and the East Midlands club could soon find themselves receiving an offer from eastern Spain next month.

Seemingly guaranteed a goal, and with a market value of under £5m – according to transfermarkt.co.uk – Vardy represents value for money that is unlikely to be matched.

Demand for the former non-league player could easily see that fee head well over double that valuation, and it remains to be seen if Vardy would chance a move abroad with the Euro 2016 Championships looming at the season conclusion.

If Vardy were to move overseas however, going to the club headed by the England assistant manager is probably as good a place as any.

It’s been a crazy season for Vardy. He’s been compared to Neymar, been linked with Real Madrid and entered the Guinness Book of Records.

Suddenly a move to Gary Neville’s Valencia doesn’t sound so unusual.
