Fantasy Football: John not feeling so generous this Christmas

Published:

It may be the season of goodwill but it is fair to say that Generous John hasn’t been living up to his name in Fantasy Football recently.

Sat ahead of his Ladbrokes Life chums in the battle for bragging rights, John has been in no mood for letting his lead slip.

This week was no different as he outscored his four chums by between 14 and 31 points.

The usual suspects all had their part to play, with Riyad Mahrez and Mesut Ozil both reaching double figures, but it was John’s faith in Watford striker Odion Ighalo that was the difference.

The Hornets man was handed the armband again and repaid the faith with two goals and the bonus points en route to adding 26 points to John’s haul of 92 points.

That was enough to pull away from his nearest challenger Mr Brightside, who racked up 62 points, which while above the overall average will need to be improved upon in future.

The decision to keep Willian in his line-up for one last chance paid off with the Chelsea man reaching double figures for the first time this season, in the stand-out performance of his XI.

While John continues to pull away, the remaining quartet are beginning to bunch up, with early trailer The Believer having a stormer.

It could have been so much better though. We suspect he might just have a soft-spot for Newcastle United with Aleksandar Mitrovic coming back into the team at the earliest opportunity, only to see him add just a solitary point.

Branislav Ivanovic found himself on the bench, with his 14 point tally missing from the team’s total.

Thankfully for our man he had double figure hauls from Ozil, Vardy, Mahrez and Ighalo to give him a more than respectable 78-point score.

Mid-table obscurity could loom for The Professor after another solid week. Captain Romelu Lukaku added 12 points with a goal while the pair of Ozil and Mahrez once again backed him up.

His 68-point total was slightly better than that of The Gut Truster who brought in the group’s lowest score this week of 61.

It was all about assists for him with the quartet of Ross Barkley, Bacary Sagna, Ozil and Vardy setting up six goals between them, to see their manager edge past the weekly average.

He finds himself well down in 303rd position in the Ladbrokes Life League which has a first prize of £100 free bet to the most astute manager.

At the moment it looks like the biggest danger to Howard Clark topping the league come May is, well….himself.

Clarks 11 lead the way, with Clark on Grass in hot pursuit.W

The former had a belter of a week, just missing out on three figures with six players scoring double figure points, while Barkley nearly made it seven with nine points.

There is a long way to go, and with 50 points between the top 12 it’s all to play for, but it is the league’s busiest manager that will be top at Christmas.
