Fantasy Football: Jack Butland haul the big win for Mr Brightside

Published:

Every week it seems to be the strikers that get the plaudits in our Fantasy Football update, but this time it is the man between the sticks’ time to be applauded.

Mr Brightside’s decision to hand Stoke goalkeeper Jack Butland his fantasy gloves this week was well rewarded as the England international added a very impressive 11 points to our man’s haul of 62 points.

The tally was the highest of all the Ladbrokes Life quintet in a solid, if unspectacular, week for the guys.

As well as an impressive performance from the Potters stopper, an assist from Mesut Ozil and goals from Jamie Vardy and captain Romelu Lukaku helped Brightside’s outfit heaped further pressure on Generous John

Generous John’s decision not to make a substitution backfired as he saw five players miss out, and two blanks drawn across his starting XI.

The ones that did play saved him somewhat with captain Odion Ighalo, Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy adding 34 points between them.

His lead over his chums is still there, but has now been whittled down to 32 points.

Bringing up the rear is The Believer, who made the mistake of leaving the aforementioned Butland on the bench and went with Chelsea ‘keeper Thibaut Cortois between the sticks.

The trio of Ighalo, Vardy and Mahrez once again made sure it was a very solid week, although he still has a long way to go to avoid the wooden spoon.

He did at least, outscore the Gut Truster, who slipped behind The Professor with a tally of just 52 points.

The usual suspects once again ensured respectability, but with the transfer of Ross Barkley in for Willian not yielding an improved points haul, he slipped down the league.

The brainiac of the group is the man that jumped up to third place in the standings with an Arsenal trio of Petr Cech, Hector Bellerin and Mesut Ozil each adding six points to a total return of 59 points.

While Generous John leads the way among the group, he is well down the pecking order in the race for the Free £100 bet on offer in the Ladbrokes Life League, acting as the only one of the five in the top 100.

There was a familiar name returning to top of the table this week, though we are not sure if that is because he’s been there before, or it’s the fact he seems to have dozens of teams in the league.

That’s right, Howard Clark’s ‘Class on Grass’ are the latest Clark XI to reach the summit.

While others had various components of the ideal attack, Clark perfected it with Vardy, Lukaku and Ighalo supportred in midfield by Ozil and Mahrez.

A total of 70 points saw him take a three point lead at the top of the table, but it could have been even better.

He opted for Petr Cech between the sticks, and who was left on the bench? None other than man-of-the-moment Jack Butland.
