Everton fans want Roberto Martinez to make New Year’s Resolution

Published:

It was one of the most entertaining fixtures of the Christmas period, but Everton’s 4-3 defeat to Stoke City was a galling one for Toffees fans.

With striker Romelu Lukaku in red hot form, netting his ninth and tenth goals in nine matches against the Potters on Monday, it will be frustrating for the blue half of Merseyside that they have won just two of their last eight league fixtures.

The defeat was the fourth time this season that Roberto Martinez’s men have scored two or more goals yet failed to take all three points this term, and certain fans are making no bones about who is to blame.

Tim Howard has missed just nine top-flight matches for Everton in the eight seasons, and while he was once a potentially world class goalkeeper, at 36-years-old, it appears many Everton fans feel the time has come for the American to be moved on.

Some came up with their own (pretty terrible) jokes…

Others had the time to put together a little video about their thoughts on Roberto Martinez’s faith shown in Howard.  Meanwhile, the vast majority just got straight to the point…

Whether the man in the dugout at Goodison Park listens to this section of the Toffees support remains to be seen, but with an FA Cup clash in a week’s time, it could be that Joel Robles gets a look in sooner rather than later.

The big question will be whether it is the Spaniard or Howard that dons the gloves for the remainder of the Premier League season.

But with the transfer window ready to swing open, there can be no ruling out of Martinez scouting around for another man between the sticks in January.

No purchase or not, it remains clear that a large section of fans don’t want Tim Howard’s name at the top of the Everton team-sheet anymore.
