Dunfermline find themselves a good ‘Luka’ charm

The battle for the Ladbrokes League 1 title has quickly become a two-horse race this season, and a pretty close one at that.  So tight in fact that its final destination could all come down a little bit of luck.

Dunfermline and Ayr have been scrapping for the leadership in Scotland’s third tier, and they met last weekend in a top of the table clash.

The Pars came out on top 2-1, no small thanks to Michael Moffat’s seventh strike of the season.

United quickly levelled through Gerry McLauchlan and despite Joe Cardle’s sending off early in the second half, David Hopkirk netted a Pars winner to secure three potentially vital points.

Ayr have a game in hand, which should they win, would bring the two sides level at the top and it looks like there’s going to be little to separate them for the rest of the campaign.

After netting the opener last weekend, Moffat thinks he may have found a lucky charm for Dunfermline in his one-year-old son Luka.

“I had my wee boy here with my Mum. He has been a wee good luck charm, we have not lost when he has been at a match,” Moffat said after the game.

“I think I need to bring him every week.”

The win at Somerset Park saw Ladbrokes shorten Dunfermline’s odds for this season’s Ladbrokes League 1 crown from 3/10 to 1/6.

Ayr won’t be shaken off easily however, and they’ve matched the Pars point for point this term, perhaps offering value in their outright odds of 10/3.

The chasing park have been left far behind and though the season has yet to reach it’s halfway stage, Ayr and Dunfermline look to have a clear edge on the rest.

Moffat and his lucky charm might have something to say about that however…
