Derek McInnes: ‘There’s been interest but I’m happy at Aberdeen’

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes has admitted that there has been interest in him from other clubs since he arrived at Pittodrie but the Dons gaffer says such attention is easy to brush off when you are focused on the task at hand.
McInnes has been linked with a raft of roles in recent months with rumours putting him in the frame for positions ranging from the Scotland job to the Rangers helm and with his Aberdeen side pushing Celtic all the way last year and starting this season with a record-breaking run it is easy to see why.
However, the Pittodrie boss claims it has been easy to ignore the speculation as he is very happy in his current role.
“There have been opportunities if we’d courted them and given them encouragement. But that doesn’t always need to come from clubs contacting you. You can quickly squash that and move on with the job because I don’t think there is any real benefit of that uncertainty,” he told the Daily Record.
“While you may get linked with another job – or losing your own – there’s a lot to be said with being happy at your work. When we signed that contract we were really happy and nothing has changed since then.”
Aberdeen currently sit second in the Ladbrokes Premiership after securing a crucial win over Hearts at the weekend and McInnes will hope to maintain the pressure on league leaders Celtic when his side travel to Kilmarnock this weekend.
The Dons are the 13/20 favourite to take all three points from their meeting with Killie but with Celtic at home to relegation strugglers Motherwell and 1/8 to get the win, the Dons gaffer may have to wait a week or two for an opportunity to further close the gap.
