Clyde’s David Gormley named Ladbrokes League 2 Player of the Month

Clyde striker David Gormley has been named Ladbrokes League 2 Player of the Month for November after his five goals helped the Bully Wee claim a perfect nine points.

The forward, 27, returned to league action from Junior Football in July this year and admitted he was surprised to be given the award despite bagging five goals in two games, including a four-goal haul in the 5-0 rout of Berwick Rangers last time out.

Speaking to Ladbrokes News the former Auchinleck man said: “It was a huge surprise to get the award. Obviously I scored four goals in my last game but it was still a surprise.

“It’s great to be recognised though and also for the manger to get his award too, it just shows we are doing things right. It’s a personal accolade for me but as the old cliché goes I wouldn’t have been able to score the goals without the rest of the team.”

Gormley’s recent strikes take his season’s tally to six but after hitting just one goal in his first 15 appearances for the club the striker admits he was a little concerned about his lack of goals.

“I was concerned at times but there were 11 new signings in the summer so we’ve all been trying to find our feet,” he explained.

“At times I was playing out wide and I was concerned at the lack of goals but the manager kept faith with me and told me I was doing other things well for the team but for my own confidence it was great to get the goals.”

Clyde are now billed as the 5/2 joint favourites to win the league and while Gormley maintains that promotion is the ultimate aim, on a personal level he has targets of his own.

“At the start of the season every striker wants to reach double figures and I’d like go on a good wee run now and achieve that. I’m only four goals away so I’d like to think I can get that and press on,” he added.

“We’ve got a strong squad so we’ll continue taking each game as it comes and hopefully we’re still pushing for a promotion place or a play-off spot at least when May comes.”
