Clyde boss Barry Ferguson favourite for vacant St Mirren role

After a poor start to the season that saw St Mirren go from promotion candidates to relegation possibilities, the Buddies are on the look-out for a new manager.
Ian Murray tended his resignation after the club slumped to a fourth defeat in their last six league games on Saturday with the club sat in eighth position in the Ladbrokes Championship.
The early favourite to succeed Murray is Clyde boss Barry Ferguson.
The former Rangers midfielder has guided The Bully Wee to four straight wins, taking them up to third place in Ladbrokes League 2, just three points off top spot.
The league sponsors have the 37-year-old as 11/4 jolly to be handed the reins in Paisley, and he certainly fits the mould of a St Mirren manager.
Five of the last six men to take charge at St Mirren Park joined the club for either their first or second permanent role in management.
Ferguson’s position at Clyde is his maiden role as number one and he looks to be impressing plenty of onlookers with the work he has done.
The former has transformed Raith Rovers into real play-off contenders in the second tier of Scottish football, so whether he’d want to swap a potential promotion push for a relegation scrap is unclear.
Former Aberdeen boss Calderwood has been without a club since January 2014, and while he has had plenty of years in the sun at the top levels of the game, his past also suggests he can be an outspoken character.
The circumstances in which he left his last role at De Graafschap in Holland after just a month in charge as well as Kilmarnock in 2010, when he reportedly had a falling out with the club’s owners, might give St Mirren chairman Stewart Gilmour something to consider.
At bigger prices the likes of Dunfermline gaffer Allan Johnstone (20/1) or former Buddies boss Gus MacPherson (20/1) could be tempting to some punters, but as it stands, the betting suggests the hierarchy have their sights set on a raid of Broadwood.
