Chelsea aren’t too good to go down, according to poll

Chelsea are not too good to fall into the Championship after a nightmare first half of the season.

That is the finding of the latest Ladbrokes News poll, which asked readers to vote on whether the Blues were simply too good to go from champions to relegation in just one season.

The poll comes in the wake of Chelsea’s ninth defeat of the season – at the hands of shock Premier League leaders Leicester – with the Blues currently sitting just one point above the relegation zone after 16 games.

And despite Stamford Bridge being home to the likes of Diego Costa, Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas more people think the west Londoners could well find themselves succumbing to the most incredible of fates.

According to the poll 52 per cent of Ladbrokes News readers believe the current Chelsea squad could be heading through the trap door, while just 48 per cent believe Jose Mourinho can turn things around.

The man himself has now admitted that a top four finish is out of the question and after claiming his players “betrayed him” in the loss to the Foxes it is clear the self-acclaimed “Special One” has work to do on and off the field if he is to ease the club’s woes.

Whether or not he can turn things around though remains to be seen and with his Blues side now 150/1 to retain their title the remainder of the season is a salvage job at best.

Champions League football is unlikely to be seen at the Bridge next season – unless they can win it this year – with a top four finish priced at 12/1, while a top six finish appears more likely at 11/4.

A top 10 finish is still nailed on, according to the betting, at 1/4, while relegation remains an outside bet at 45/1 – odds that will certainly temp 52 per cent of today’s voters.
