Barry Ferguson: Mark Warburton is already at one of the world’s biggest clubs

Rangers manager Mark Warburton should put any thoughts of returning to England to one side and focus on finishing the job he has started at Ibrox.

That is according to former Rangers midfield star Barry Ferguson, who says Warburton is doing a fantastic job at his old club and should stick around to reap the rewards.

It comes after Gary Neville’s shock appointment as Valencia boss left Warburton as the clear favourite to take over at Craven Cottage, with Ladbrokes pricing the former Brentford boss as the 2/1 jolly.

Dick Advocaat, Clarence Seedorf and Nigel Pearson are also in the running, but with odds of 6/1, 7/1 and 9/1 respectively the bookmakers clearly think Warburton is interested in the role.

However, Ferguson cannot see the logic in such a move, stating that the global appeal of the Ibrox club means a move to the capital could be viewed as a backward step.

In an exclusive interview with Ladbrokes News, the Clyde FC manager said: “He’s done a great job at Ibrox and Rangers are one of the biggest clubs, not just in Britain but in the world and Mark will know how big a job it is.

“He’s got the team playing some fantastic stuff and there’s no doubt in my mind that he should stay and carry on his good work and I fully expect him to do that.”

Rangers currently top the Ladbrokes Championship by three points, having won 13 and drawn one of their opening 15 games this season.

The Gers will get a chance to extend their lead over second-placed Hibs when they travel to Raith Rovers this weekend, a game for which the league sponsors have chalked them up as heavy favourites at 3/10.
