Anderson tipped for back-to-back World Darts Championships

After pre-tournament favourite Michael van Gerwen met his end in a thriller last night, the World Darts Championship looks tougher to call than ever, but it will not be his compatriot Raymond van Barneveld that takes the spoils.
That is one of the small nuggets that we can take out of today’s Ladbrokes News poll as we asked you to name the winner of the Alexandra Palace showpiece.
Five-time winner Barney may have been throwing some stunning arrows at the oche on Tuesday evening, but just six per cent of our poll went the Dutchman’s way.
Instead it was defending champion and 5/2 favourite for the crown Gary Anderson who garnered most support.
The Flying Scotsman picked up 32 per cent of the vote, and with the 45-year-old dropping just one set in his three matches to date, it is easy to see why.
His opponent in the quarter finals James Wade attracted 11 per cent of the backing, but it appears the Machine will continue to struggle on the biggest stage.
Instead, the biggest danger to last year’s winner Anderson is dual champ Adrian Lewis.
The Stoke player can boast an even more impressive run of results to the Scot, winning each of his matches to nil so far.
Fellow Staffordshire-born thrower and legend of the game Phil Taylor – at a potentially lengthy 4/1 considering his 14 PDC world titles – came third in our poll attracting 21 per cent of the vote.
But with ‘The Power’ failing to win a PDC premier event in 2015, the first year he has drawn a blank since the corporation’s inception in 1994, he will need a revival in the New Year.
Nevertheless, with five per cent opting to select ‘Other’ in our poll, meaning they fancy a player at 10/1 or bigger, this renewal could just about end up anywhere.
As things stand though, it is Gary Anderson who, according to the people, who will be lifting the trophy again.
