They may be the current Premier League champions but a top-half finish is the best Chelsea can expect this season according to the results of the latest Ladbrokes News poll.
We asked you where you think the struggling Blues will end up following a disastrous start to the defence of their title.
Jose Mourinho’s beleaguered charges have now lost six of their opening 11 games after a 3-1 home reverse against Liverpool on Saturday.
And even the Special One himself has gone on record as saying he’s unsure if he can deliver a top-four finish and Champions League football next season.
Whether the Portuguese will be given the chance to turn things around is still up for discussion.
But whoever is in charge, 59 per cent of voters believe the west London outfit will only record a top-half finish.
The talent may be misfiring at present but that’s the least most of us would expect from a team that’s at least finished in the top 10 in each of the last 19 seasons.
However, could Chelsea’s current malaise be just the start of a slide into mediocrity?
Back in the mid-nineties Glenn Hoddle’s Blues could only muster an 11th-place finish as the 1995-96 season drew to a close.
A not insignificant 10 per cent believe a return to mid-table obscurity could be in store although 17 per cent think a top-four spot is still attainable.
Meanwhile, there was hardly any interest in entertaining the idea that Chelsea will retain their crown but there were more than a few of you out there tipping the Pensioners for relegation.
