Top 5 Sporting Cameos: Rooney slaps his way onto the list

Louis van Gaal has been bemoaning a lack of punch up front in his Manchester United squad, and this week Wayne Rooney duly answered his managers’ call. Well, sort of.
The United and England skipper was an audience member at WWE Raw on Monday night in Manchester, only to end up as a participant.
Rooney isn’t the first to have a little sporting cameo, and we’ve taken a little look back at five of the most memorable.
Wayne Rooney
The United frontman was in attendance with Ryan Giggs and Darren Fletcher at WWE Raw on Monday night, but was called out by Wade Barrett.
After exchanging words, England’s captain slaps Barrett. The crowd went wild. Who knew Rooney was such a good actor?
Mike Tyson
Staying in the world of scripted sport, Mike Tyson was always going to be a big draw for a cameo.
Iron Mike could probably have made a pretty successful career for himself had he chosen wrestling over boxing.
Helping out Stone Cold Steve Austin, Tyson promptly ‘knocks out’ Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania XIV in 1998.
Floyd Mayweather
Some 10 years later, Floyd Mayweather brought the added drama at WrestleMania XXIV in 2008 by taking on the Big Show.
Money really went for it and despite the 40cm difference between the pair his first blow smashed Big Show’s nose.
Lewis Hamilton
Staying in Wrestling, albeit over the border at Mexican event Lucha Libre.
Three-time Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton arguably produced better moves than Mayweather, Tyson and co.
He might be small (for a wrestler), he might even be wearing jeans and a jumper, but Hamilton clearly has some talent in the ring.
Michael Phelps
Not every impressive cameo is scripted, so let’s take a step back and switch it around a bit.
Step forward swimmer Michael Phelps at the 2012 Alfred Dunhill Links Pro-Am Championship.
The American stuns all with a monstrous putt of 53 yards – or 159 feet which may sound somewhat more impressive.
