Swansea victory ideal preparation for Arsenal’s Bayern trip

After a disappointing League Cup exit to Sheffield Wednesday last week, the prospect of a trip to south west Wales was one which could easily have been cause for concern with even the most optimistic of Arsenal fans.

Instead, Arsene Wenger’s men produced a resolute first-half defensive display, before a trio of goals post-interval ensured a happy trip back to London.

To take a draw from the Liberty Stadium is often the sign of a respectable performance, but Arsenal’s victory was just the latest indication that injuries or not, the London club are serious title contenders this season.

Olivier Giroud, Laurent Koscielny and Joel Campbell – in his first league start for the club – claimed a goal each in a win which has moved the Gunners into 13/10 to win the Premier League this term.

With eight first-team players out injured, Campbell’s performance in particular will have delighted Wenger, and the Arsenal boss can head to Bayern Munich for this week’s Champions League clash with a first-XI in excellent spirits.

Pep Guardiola’s men have won all seven home games this term – netting 29 times – but while the 6/1 on the Gunners to win may seem a stretch, a draw at 15/4 could be more appealing.

Particularly so given that Bayern will have been frustrated and somewhat rattled after seeing their perfect start in the Bundesliga come to an end on Friday night in a 0-0 draw at Eintracht Frankfurt.

The hosts put up a dogged defensive display – not dissimilar to Arsenal’s at the Emirates – and that will only add further confidence to Wenger and his side that they can return to London with something to show for their efforts.
