Spurs v Anderlecht: Don’t ignore a history of both teams scoring

Published:

Tottenham’s stature as a cup side is under serious threat this season and it’s all their Premier League form’s fault.

Usually one of the more fancied sides for the FA Cup, Capital One Cup and Europa League, Spurs have won just one of the four games they’ve played across those competitions thus far this term. At the same time, they haven’t lost a league game since the opening day.

That’s not to say that Mauricio Pochettino’s men are now a title-challenger. They’re not. But a stronger run at the top four may just push the efforts in the cup competitions to one side for this season, which makes the Argentine’s approach to hosting Anderlecht intriguing.

The north London derby hangs over this game like a soaked trench coat and poses Pochettino real selection questions for the arrival of Belgium’s second-placed side.

That the Purple and White handed a loss to the White Hart Lane outfit last time they met, where Spurs rested Danny Rose, Dele Alli and Harry Kane, will surely inspire the former Southampton tactician to resist a temptation to rotate.

Defeat left the Lilywhites outside the qualification spots after three games in Group J, albeit by just a solitary point. If the club wish to progress to challenge for Europe’s second-tier trophy though, they will need a result against the Belgians.

Ladbrokes make it an 8/11 chance that Spurs claim victory in the return fixture, with Besnik Hasi’s visitors available at 4/1 and the draw a 11/4 shot.

Away from the match-betting market, 17/20 about both teams scoring looks like real value. The bet has landed in all four previous clashes between the sides, with the recent 2-1 Anderlecht following three straight 1-1 draws.

Considering the Brussels club are yet to lose to their north London rivals, 11/10 on them in the double chance market is another price that stands out.

Of course, it could be that none of those odds appeal, in which case the two special offers detailed below may be of use:
