Serie A the perfect destination for long-time Chelsea favourite

Chelsea’s season has made absolutely no sense so far, with the champions falling as low as 16th in the Premier League.

Faring so badly in a league they only won a couple of months ago, has left people scratching their heads as to why this has happened.

Simplistically, the players are just not performing for their manager, with reliable squad members now looking poor.

Willian is the only Blues star that can have any sense of pride with recent performances, and Jose Mourinho is rumoured to be planning an extensive overhaul in January.

Branislav Ivanovic is one such underperforming player and could find himself heading out of Stamford Bridge in 2016, with Inter Milan his rumoured destination.

The Serbian defender has been highlighted as one of the main failings in Mourinho’s side this season, and he has particularly stood out due to the Portuguese manager’s refusal to drop him.

Other strugglers such as John Terry, Eden Hazard and Nemanja Matic have all been hooked at some point during the season, but the defender’s continued starts leave him overexposed to criticism.

This is typified by that fact that the 31-year-old is averaging 1.3 interceptions a game, the lowest ever total in his career, during a period where Chelsea have had to defend more than usual.

Inter would provide the perfect destination for Ivanovic to get back in form, with Serie A proving to be a refuge for Premier League cast offs.

At Internazionale alone, Stevan Jovetic, Nemanja Vidic and Gary Medel are all part of a squad that has gone six games unbeaten to go second in the league.

The Nerazzurri are only being kept off the top of the table by Fiorentina, with Paulo Sousa overseeing the Viola’s success thanks to the goals of former Blackburn Rovers man Nikola Kalinic, backed up by Borja Valero, Giuseppe Rossi and Marcos Alonso.
