Ronny Deila: Leigh Griffiths can be a big Celtic player for many years

Celtic’s Ronny Deila has been honoured for a spectacular October after picking up the Ladbrokes Manager of the Month award.

Deila oversaw a perfect October for the Bhoys, with wins over Hamilton, Motherwell, Dundee United and Aberdeen helping the Parkhead outfit build a six-point lead at the top of the Ladbrokes Premiership.

Even though the manager believes there is still progress to be made, he revealed his delight at his side’s ability to keep winning and cementing their lead while still in a period of development.

“Every game is important but beating Aberdeen at home was even more so as it gives us an advantage in the league,” he told Ladbrokes News.

“Nobody can take these points away from us now. We want to keep winning and keep developing but it makes it even better if we can develop while already winning games and with a gap at the top of the table.”

Deila welcomed the Manager of the Month award and said that while he shares it with his staff and the players, having been the focal point when things have not been so good it is “much more fun” to be the face of some positive recognition.

One player who has been singled out for praise is in-form striker Leigh Griffiths and Deila believes he will be an important part of Celtic’s aspirations this season and in the future.

“Leigh has developed a lot over the last 18 months. In the beginning he wasn’t playing regularly but he has worked hard and is better now on and off the pitch,” he added.

“He was important at the end of last season but he is even more so now and that’s a credit to him. To have a player that scores in almost every game is what every team wants and he will be a big player for us this season and hopefully for many years to come.”
