Real Madrid ace could be heading for winter Arsenal switch

It was one of the most prominent transfer stories of the summer, but after a short lull, Karim Benzema to Arsenal is once again making the back pages.

The Real Madrid forward could even be making the move this January, according to reports from the folk in Spain at news outlet Fichajes.

Barely a week went by in the off-season without a new angle on Benzema to the Emirates cropping up, but there appears to be some method behind the madness this time around.

Real Madrid are allegedly unimpressed with Benzema’s police charge over involvement in a sex-tape scandal, while it appears the French international may also be keen to move out from Cristiano Ronaldo’s egotistical shadow.

Arsenal looked like a team in dire need of a break during their 1-1 draw with north London rivals Tottenham on Sunday, and Arsene Wenger has done well to reach the international period minus eight first-team players.

With the Gunners still joint-top of the Premier League, a title bid is still very much on for Wenger’s side, and there’s little doubt securing Benzema’s signature would be a huge sign of intention from the often-beleaguered Arsenal manager.

Question marks remain too over the abilities of Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott up front, and it’s hard to argue that Benzema wouldn’t be a step up in terms of a complete striker in Arsenal’s attacking roster.

The prospect of Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Benzema in the same team is certainly one to cherish, and Gooners will need to keep their fingers crossed this Christmas.

Arsenal are 11/8 to claim a first Premier League title in 12 years next May, and that would surely shorten if Wenger lands the Real Madrid striker.
