Poll: Will there be a Ronaldo reunion at Manchester United?

Published:

It could be news that will have Louis van Gaal rubbing his hands with glee, but do Cristiano Ronaldo’s reported comments following Real Madrid’s El Clasico capitulation actually mean anything?

The Portuguese forward apparently made it clear that Los Blancos boss Rafael Benitez needs to be shown the door, reportedly saying “he goes, or I go”, after his side were taken apart by Barcelona on Sunday.

The fallout sees more fuel added to the fire that a return to the Premier League is on the cards for the 30-year-old with former club Manchester United said to be tracking him.

Red Devils boss Van Gaal, when asked about Ronaldo, refused to dismiss any interest.

“We are looking at all players, not just Ronaldo. But these players are mostly ungettable [sic]. With Ronaldo, let’s wait and hope,” he said.

Since leaving Old Trafford for the warmer climes of Madrid, the two-time Ballon d’Or winner has been simply unstoppable, netting 326 times in 316 appearances for the Spaniards.

But with the weekend’s defeat leaving the Bernabeu outfit six points off rivals Barca at the top of La Liga, the push for another title at Madrid looks to be dwindling.

If club president Florentino Perez sees fit to back Benitez in the hot-seat some of the clubs stars, Ronaldo included could push for an exit.

Such a revolt could see Manchester United pounce for their former talisman, in a move that would add more weight to United’s Premier League challenge.

But will Real play ball? Does Ronaldo even want to go back? For today’s poll we want you to dust off those crystal balls and tell us whether you think a reunion will be on the cards or whether there will be no Old Trafford return for the Portugal international.
