Poll: Should Liverpool risk Daniel Sturridge against Man City?

Published:

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has hinted that sicknote striker Daniel Sturridge could feature in the Reds’ upcoming clash with Manchester City.

But having managed just 242 minutes on the pitch this season because of hip and knee injuries, should the German gaffer take the risk?

That’s the subject of today’s poll and we want to know whether you think the 26-year-old should be thrown into the firing line or be given longer to continue his rehabilitation.

At a pre-game press conference Klopp told reporters: “He is as fit as he can be after a long break. Of course he is not at 100% and we have to see.

“But because he is that skilled maybe we should [include him]. As a striker sometimes five minutes are enough.”

However, the Anfield supremo was also quick to point out that Sturridge has hardly trained recently and that’s a factor that could influence his decision on whether to afford one of his key players game time this weekend.

“For four-and-a-half weeks he has not trained; no cycling, running, nothing,” he added.

“Everyone wants to see more of Daniel on the pitch so you have to train but we have to find the right balance.

“His quality is outstanding, we don’t have to talk about this, but everyone needs training.”

There’s no doubting the frontman’s talent. Having notched 24 goals in Liverpool’s 2013-14 title tussle the foundations were laid for Sturridge to become a Kop legend.

But having scored just six league goals since then owing to a host of injuries, should Liverpool throw him back into the fray or hold off until he nears full fitness again?
