Poll result: Brendan Rodgers is too good for Qatar move

Published:

Brendan Rodgers needs to aim higher than the Qatari League at this stage in his career, according to a slim majority of Ladbrokes News readers.

The former Liverpool boss looks primed to take over at Al Sadd on a contract worth a whopping £3.5m per year (tax free), but questions as to whether there is more to the role than just the money remain.

We asked our readers whether the Ulsterman was too good to swap the Premier League for the Middle East after just seven years of his managerial career, and while most have said he is above joining up with Al Zaeem, it was certainly tight.

Of those that responded, 54 per cent said the ex-Swansea and Reading gaffer could do better than take the job he’s been linked with.

A rather surprising 46 per cent implied that the role was at his level, and after leaving Liverpool following a very average spell in charge, should be more than grateful for the interest.

Rodgers had recently been linked to the vacant positions at both Fulham and QPR, and is still currently 5/1 second-favourite for the latter.

But it now looks as if though he will be opting for the tropical climes of the Middle East as opposed to the winter chill of London.

Would that be a good move for the 42-year-old? Or is the allure of the cash the only benefit that will bestow him? Time will tell, but feel free to get in contact with your views in the comments section at the bottom of the page.
