Poll: Is Moyes still magic? Or have last two spells ruined his reputation?

Published:

David Moyes’ spell in Spain came to an end on Monday when he was dismissed as Real Sociedad manager just one day shy of his one year anniversary.

At the San Sebastian club the Scot steadied the ship after a poor start to the 2014-15 season, lifting the club from 15th to finish 12th in his maiden season on the continent.

This term though, things started badly at Estadio Municipal de Anoeta, with six defeats from their opening 11 matches putting Sociedad down in a relegation scrap once again.

The former Preston manager has almost become a figure of fun in some circles, with his (relatively) disastrous spell at Manchester United the apparent catalyst for the change in opinion on his talents.

Following on from Sir Alex Ferguson was always going to be tough, and while he lasted longer than his foray in the Spanish sun (by a month) United fans won’t look back fondly on his spell at the Old Trafford helm.

Prior to that though, the 52-year-old enjoyed a brilliant spell in charge at Everton that lasted over a decade which included highlights such as guiding the Toffees to a top four position for the first time in 18 years and an FA Cup final appearance.

But after his two most recent jobs which have been minor failures, does Moyes still have what it takes to manage in the top leagues.

Ladbrokes make it a 5/6 chance that he takes the reins at a Premier League side before the season is out, with Newcastle the 7/4 favourites to be his next port of call.

Would you have him in charge of your club? Vote now in today’s poll and tell us whether David Moyes is still a good manager or have his last two stints tarnished his reputation for good?
