POLL: Is it ever OK to leave a football game early?

Published:

Moments after Scott Dann headed in what turned out to be Crystal Palace’s winning goal against Liverpool yesterday, Jurgen Klopp turned to the stands and watched fan after fan file out of Anfield with the best part of ten minutes remaining.

This was a true culture shock for Klopp, who got used to Dortmund fans chanting louder and louder if BvB needed a boost chasing victory, rather than an increasingly empty Anfield stadium in times of need.

The defeat was the first for Liverpool under their new boss, who now realises he has more to deal with than improvements only on the pitch.

After the game Klopp said: “I am not disappointed about this, the fans leaving, they have reasons.

“But we are responsible that nobody can leave the stadium a minute before the last whistle because everything can happen.

“Between 82 minutes and 94 you can make eight goals if you want, but you have to work for it.”

The former Mainz manager has made it clear it is performances on the pitch which will determine if supporters stay until the end, but shouldn’t supporters stay to the final whistle anyway to support their club?

Today we are asking the question, is there ever a good reason to leave a football game early?
