Poll: Is Brendan Rodgers too good for the Middle East?

Published:

Sacked Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is reportedly mulling over a move to the Middle East for the next chapter in his career.

Rodgers was on the brink of landing the Reds’ first ever Premier League crown in 2014 but poor results in the wake of missing out to Manchester City saw the Northern Irishman make way for Jurgen Klopp.

Former Swansea manager Rodgers has had offers for TV punditry work and was thought to be in the frame for the recently-available Galatasaray job but could now head to Qatar to take the helm at Al Sadd for a lucrative fee.

Newspaper reports claim the 42-year-old will receive a salary in the region of £3.5m, but is the money the only reason to take on the challenge?

That’s what we’re asking today. The Qatar Stars League may have been able to attract the likes of Raul, Xavi, Pep Guardiola and Michael Laudrup in player or managerial roles in recent years but is it still a major step backwards in a manager’s career? Especially one of Rodgers’ age and background?

Granted there are no top flight jobs available at present, but would Rodgers be better served biding his time and having another crack at the Premier League?
