Partick schedule hands them perfect chance to bounce back

Published:

Through the first nine games of the Ladbrokes Premiership season, Partick Thistle had just three points and as many goals.

Quite understandably, the Jags sat rock bottom of the division after such horrific form, but a mini revival eased their concerns.

Consecutive wins over Dundee United and St Johnstone, followed by a 1-1 draw with Hamilton Academical moved Thistle off the foot of the league, but a 4-0 drubbing against Hearts last time out was a sharp reminder of the bad times.

A repeat of the five-game losing streak the side suffered earlier in the campaign will do little to help their 11/8 favouritism to finish bottom come the end of the term, however Alan Archibald has a favourable fixture list to ensure that doesn’t happen.

All of the Glasgow club’s next five league opponents occupy no higher position than seventh in the table, so there is a real chance to load up for a leap to higher ground.

Partick have already recorded wins against one of that quintet and face Dundee United again at the end of their pleasing run, by which time they will have targeted at least two more victories.

First they travel to play the other Dundonian side, the highest-ranked of the five but themselves winless in three, and are rated at 21/10 to nab a victory by the competition sponsors.

It’s back to Firhill after that, to take on seventh-placed Inverness CT before battles against Kilmarnock and Motherwell lead into the Dundee United game.

As can be expected from teams in the bottom half of the league, none of those rivals are in particularly pleasing form and only two of them have shipped fewer goals than Thistle.

Admittedly, Partick are the lowest scorers of the five, but if the side can find their scoring touch at a pivotal point of the campaign, then a relegation scrap could turn into a top-half pursuit rather quickly.
