Over reliance on home form could spell disappointment for Elgin

It’s been very much Fortress Borough Briggs for Elgin City this season with the Moray outfit adding their sixth home win from seven matches last weekend.
That 2-0 victory over Arbroath took the Black and Whites up to fourth in Ladbrokes League 2 and on course for a promotion play-off spot.
However, their over reliance on their home form is becoming plain to see.
Their average of 2.6 points per game in front of their own fans is a stark contrast to their return on the road which has seen them win one of six, tallying 0.66 points per game on average.
That kind of poor away form could be the difference between them bagging a chance at a promotion or facing another year in the Ladbrokes SPFL bottom tier.
As it stands, just three points separate second place from seventh, with a whole host of clubs vying it out for those three play-off spots.
While they were no world beaters away from home in 2014-15, upping their level to something like they delivered last term could be key.
In their 18 fixtures on their travels, they picked up 19 points, an average of around 1.05 points per game.
Up it to that sort of level for the remainder of their matches on the road this term, while keeping their home form to a similar standard, and a total in excess of 60 points is easily achievable.
Last term Queen’s Park finished a clear second on 61 points, 11 clear of Annan in fifth position, something that is easily achievable if sorting out their form as visitors.
Elgin are currently 9/1 to top the league at the end of the season, but first and foremost making sure they end the season in the top four is paramount.
Their next three road trips could be key. Visits to Stirling Albion, Clyde and Berwick Rangers in the next month will test their play-off credentials, with all three below them in the table, yet likely to be direct competition for those top-spots.
