No shocks as X Factor acts dominate Christmas Number One betting

Published:

The festive season may still be some weeks away but with the X Factor already underway talk about this year’s Christmas number one has started in earnest.

And with The X Factor sparking the start of the conversation it is hardly surprising that three of this year’s wannabees are at the head of the market when it comes to landing 2015’s coveted chart spot.

Louisa Johnson is the current favourite at 9/4, while Che Chesterman (8/1) and Anton Stephans (10/1) are also in the top five of the betting.

With seven of the last 10 Christmas number ones coming from the X Factor a punt on either of those three could prove a shrewd move.

However, each of the three occasions when the X Factor has missed out on the festive top spot since 2005 has been the result of a charity song or campaign and this could make the 6/1 on the late, great Cilla Black a tempting selection.

A campaign to get the Liverpudlian singer-turned-TV presenter to number one has already attracted in excess of 10,000 fans.

Cilla fan Gareth Wells from Peterborough, is the man behind the campaign, which hopes to see You’re My World – A UK number one for Black in May 1964 – return to the top of the charts.

“A lot of people, especially the younger generation, will remember Cilla from TV but she had such an amazing singing career before that,” Wells told the Liverpool Echo.

Usually we have an X Factor single and I think it would be great if we could change that for Cilla.”

There is one more big hitter in the top five of the betting though in the shape of Adele. The Someone Like You singer dropped new single Hello last week and it went straight to the top of the charts.

Whether it can remain there until Christmas or not remains to be seen but a follow-up single would certainly shift some units, making Adele at tempting pick odds of 5/1.

All Odds and Markets are correct as of the date of publishing.
