Napoli ace added to Bournemouth’s January shopping list

AFC Bournemouth’s new-found riches mean a January bid for Holland international Jonathan de Guzman is back on the cards.
Cherries boss Eddie Howe identified the Napoli ace as a summer target but failed to make the move happen.
However, with the Dean Court club recently seeing Matt Hulsizer, owner of NHL outfit Minnesota Wild, take a 25 per cent stake from Maxim Demin the funds are now available to force the Serie A side into business.
De Guzman, 28, started his career at Feyenoord before moving to Spain with Mallorca and then Villarreal.
A two-year loan spell at Swansea saw Napoli come calling but despite some strong performances for the Italians the midfielder has struggled for game time of late.
The Canada-born star has played just 23 league games for the Partenopei since arriving in 2014 and is thought to favour a return to the Premier League to kick-start his career.
Bournemouth invested heavily in the squad over the summer, breaking the club record twice to bring in Tyrone Mings and Max Gradel from Ipswich and Saint-Etienne respectively.
However, with both players ruled out for the season, alongside top scorer Callum Wilson, the south coast club are desperate for reinforcements, especially those of a creative variety.
Next up for Bournemouth is De Guzman’s old club, with the Cherries travelling to the Liberty Stadium to take on the Swans.
Howe’s men go into the game as 16/5 underdogs, with the hosts available at 17/20 and the draw on at 5/2.
The Cherries are currently evens to beat the drop but win or lose this weekend arrivals of De Guzman’s ilk could see that price shorten in the New Year.
