Manchester United plan £57m bid for superstar striker

Manchester United have identified Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the man to fire them to glory, according to reports.

United drew a blank for the third game in a row when drawing 0-0 with Crystal Palace at the weekend and if reports are to be believed manager Louis van Gaal is losing patience with captain Wayne Rooney in the main striker’s role.

Spanish news provider Don Balon has claimed that the Dutchman will attempt to lure Zlatan to Old Trafford in the summer with a £57m bid.

Ironically it is a former United icon that could stand between Van Gaal and the 34-year-old Swede, with David Beckham reportedly also keen to snap up the PSG man.

Ibrahimovic recently expressed an interest in seeing out his playing days in MLS and in particular with Beckham’s soon-to-be-operational Miami-based franchise.

However, Van Gaal will hope that a last hurrah in England will prove more alluring, as he attempts to deploy Rooney in a deeper lying playmaker role and combine the experience of Ibrahimovic and the pace and creativity of Anthony Martial up top.

United are next in action against CSKA Moscow in the Champions League and while the Red Devils go into the tie as 3/5 favourites another blank for the England captain will see United continually linked with striking reinforcements – Zlatan or otherwise.
