Louis van Gaal not the man to bring Manchester United success

Published:

Despite occupying a higher position in the Premier League table than Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea, Louis van Gaal is not the right manager for Manchester United.

That is the reaction of Ladbrokes’ latest poll as we asked our readers to tell us if the Dutchman could bring success to the Old Trafford club.

The response was telling, with a whopping 80 per cent saying that the former Netherlands boss was not the man for United.

By the powers of mathematics you will be able to deduce that only 20 per cent gave LVG their backing to succeed.

With the club sat in second place of the Premier League, still holding a chance to progress from their Champions League group and the boss showing a better win percentage than David Moyes, who was given 10 months in the hot-seat, it might seem like a harsh judgement.

However, it is more Van Gaal’s style of play that appears to grind on United fans, with many accusing him of being too defensive.

That set-up has seen the attacking duo of Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial come in for plenty of stick, though it is questionable whether their lack of recent goals is entirely their fault.

While our readers cannot see Van Gaal being the man to install long-term success at the Theatre of Dreams, according to the odds he will be sticking around a while longer yet.

The ex-Barcelona supremo is 50/1 to be the next Premier League manager to be shown the door, and if they beat Leicester and find themselves top after the weekend, those odds could yet lengthen.
