Livingston strikers’ personal battle is behind recent goal rush
Livingston’s season continued to head in the right direction last weekend with an impressive 3-0 win at home to Raith Rovers.
The win was Livi’s second victory in succession, and after starting the Ladbrokes Championship campaign with a solitary point from their opening six games, they’ve now claimed nine from their last five.
Jordan White scored twice on Saturday, but the 23-year-old has had to bide his time despite netting 15 times last season.
Livi moved in the summer to bolster their strike force, bringing in Liam Buchanan and Jordyn Sheerin, and after a slow start the Lions have now scored seven goals in their last two games, and 11 in their last five.
Speaking to the Daily Record, White explained how competition for places has been a positive:
“Liam and Jordyn coming in has made me a better player. You want competition for places because it keeps you on your toes and you don’t want to get too complacent.”
White’s brace at the weekend took his tally to six in all competitions this term, the same number as Buchanan while Sheerin has chipped in with two thus far.
The trio are responsible for 14 of Livingston’s 22 strikes in all competitions.
Assistant Manager David Hopkin expressed delight with the front trio to the Daily Record.
“We’ve got three strikers but we’re only starting two just now. We’ve got great options.
“Jordan’s had to be patient this season after scoring a lot of goals last year. Liam and Jordyn have both come in and done well,” the former Leeds man added.
Livi’s upturn in form has lifted them to seventh in the table, and White believes recent results have been fully deserved.
“We’ve been playing well recently and been losing games that we don’t deserve to lose, but the last two games we’ve been brilliant.
“Now it’s just a case of looking upwards going into next week’s game.”
Livingston head to Morton on Saturday and can be backed at 11/5 with Ladbrokes for a third-straight victory.
