Ladbrokes Premiership: Aberdeen back to winning ways

Aberdeen finally returned to winning ways at the weekend, ending a five-game winless streak in the Ladbrokes Premiership to cement their position in the top three and keep their title dream alive.
The Dons had lost four and drawn one of their previous five games going into this weekend, in stark contrast to the record-breaking eight-game winning run with which they started the campaign.
Losses to Inverness, St Johnstone, Ross County and Celtic, plus a draw with Motherwell looked to have derailed Derek McInnes’ side’s momentum but the Pittodrie outfit bounced back with a 2-0 win over basement boys Dundee United.
Dons fans were forced to wait until the second half for the goals but once Adam Rooney hit the hosts in front on 52 minutes the result was inevitable – Jonny Hayes confirming the victory with 17 minutes remaining.
The win saw the Dons stay five points clear of St Johnstone in fourth but it’s as you were at the top with leaders Celtic convincing 4-1 winners away to Ross County – thanks in-part to a brace from the in-form Leigh Griffiths – and second-placed Hearts enjoying a comfortable 2-0 win over Hamilton.
Outside of the top three St Johnstone picked up a third successive win, beating Kilmarnock 2-1, to keep the pressure on the three clubs above them, while Dundee’s search for a league win stretched to four games after a 1-1 draw with Partick Thistle.
Inverness, meanwhile, moved to within a point of the top six after ending a four-game winless streak with a convincing 3-1 win away to Motherwell.
First-half goals from Greg Tansey and Miles Storey had Thistle 2-0 before the break and Iain Vigurs put the tie beyond doubt with a fine strike on 53 minutes.
Louis Moult pulled one back for Well five minutes later but fleeting hopes of a comeback were extinguished when Liam Grimshaw’s vicious shot cannoned back off the cross bar.
After 14 games Celtic remain the 1/100 title favourites with Hearts (40/1) and Aberdeen (33/1) the only likely challengers.
Leigh Griffith’s double has seen his top scorer odds cut to just 4/11, while odds of 5/4 and 7/4 on Partick and Dundee United respectively hint at a scrap between the Jags and the Terrors to avoid bottom spot.
