Ladbrokes League 2: East Fife woes to continue at Arbroath

Published:

Life in Ladbrokes League 2 is proving to be immensely competitive this season, with just five points separating third from ninth, but that’s of no concern to league leaders Annan who look to extend their five-point advantage at the top when they head to Elgin.

Meanwhile, Clyde host poor-travelling Montrose, East Stirling look to maintain their recent upswing in form, and Arbroath welcome third-placed East Fife to Gayfield Park.

Here’s your weekly preview…

Arbroath v East Fife

After one point from their opening five games, things looked bleak for Arbroath. A 1-0 win at East Fife however has proved the turning point for the Red Lichties, who have won four of their last six matches.

East Fife are very much the reverse this season, beginning with three wins from four. Heading into the trip to Gayfield Park however the Fifers have won just two of their last seven, and are winless in five games in all competitions.

Best Bet: Arbroath @ 29/20

Berwick v Stirling Albion

In identical fashion to Arbroath, Stirling began the year with one point from four games, but they head to Berwick unbeaten in five games in all competitions, conceding just once.

The Borderers suffered a heavy 4-1 loss at Montrose last week, seven days after a repeat defeat by Annan in the cup.

Rangers have lost just once at home this season, but having won only one of their last six in all competitions, this could be an even encounter with the improved Stirling.

Best Bet: Draw @ 13/5

Clyde v Montrose

Clyde haven’t won in the league since September 12 but they host a Montrose side continuing to produce Jekyll and Hyde performances.

They may be second in the table, but only three of the Gable Endies’ points have come on the road.

Montrose won the first meeting this season 2-0, but with just two away wins in their last 20 League 2 games, Clyde should pick up points this weekend.

Best Bet: Clyde @ 4/5

East Stirling v Queen’s Park

East Stirling were hammered 5-1 by Queen’s Park in the first meeting six weeks ago, but are unbeaten in their last two games, notching a pair of clean sheets too.

Queens on the other hand have fallen away of late, and are winless in three matches.

Nine of the Shire’s ten points have come at Ochilview Park this season, and they saw off league leaders Annan 3-1 in August.

Best Bet: East Stirling Draw No Bet @ 19/10

Elgin v Annan

Elgin could go second with a win, while Annan could open up an eight point gap at the top should things go their way, so there’s plenty to play for at Borough Briggs.

City’s win over Arbroath last time out was their first win in five, but Annan have won four and drawn one of their last quintet of matches.

The pair drew 1-1 just over a month ago, and with Elgin picking up 13 points from a possible 15 at home this term, another stalemate looks likely.

Best Bet: Draw/Draw @ 5/1
