Ladbrokes League 1: Ayr to cement status as tabletoppers

Published:

Things are tight at the top of Ladbrokes League 1 with just a single point separating leaders Ayr United and second-placed Dunfermline.

United are unbeaten in 11 league games and look set to continue that run as they travel to Brechin City this weekend.

Ian McCall’s men know that any slip-up will allow Dunfermline to leap-frog them with a win over Peterhead.

With the Pars at home that result looks fairly likely so the drama looks set to continue.

Read on for the lowdown on all this week’s games:

Albion Rovers v Cowdenbeath

Albion Rovers look set to cement their place at the head of Ladbrokes League 1, having won four of their last five games at Cliftonhill. Cowdenbeath have lost four of their last five on the road, with their only win in that run coming against lowly Stranraer. The last three meetings between these two sides have seen the home side win while keeping a clean sheet.
Best Bet: Albion Rovers to win to nil @ 11/5

Brechin City v Ayr

Brechin’s poor form of late – one win from four games – makes for even worse reading when just home games are considered. Ray McKinnon’s side have lost four of their last five at Glebe Park, while Ayr are unbeaten in four on the road, winning three of those games. A low-scoring match can be expected, however, with just one of the last five meetings seeing over 3.5 goals.
Best Bet: Under 3.5 goals @ 11/20

Dunfermline v Peterhead

Peterhead approach the game in mixed form wining two and losing two of their last four. Away form has been their downfall of late. The Blue Toon have lost three and drawn two of their last five on the road. With the Pars winning 3-0 at home last season and coming into the game losing just one of their last five at home a repeat could well be on the cards.
Best Bet: Dunfermline 3-0 Peterhead @ 8/1

Forfar Athletic v Airdrieonians

Hosts Forfar have been struggling of late, failing to win any of their last five outings. Visitors Airdrieonians have fared slightly better, wining two and drawing one of their last five on the road. However, the Loons have enjoyed the best of the recent meetings, winning three and drawing one of the last five and taking the last two without conceding.
Best Bet: Forfar to win to nil @ 18/5

Stranraer v Stenhousemuir

Stenhousemuir ended a run of four successive away defeats with a recent draw against Cowdenbeath and picked up a first win in six last time out against Peterhead. Stranraer, by comparison are moving in the opposite direction, and come in this game on the back of three successive defeats. The home side has won the last four meetings between these sides but the run looks set to end here.
Best bet: Stenhousemuir to win @ 19/10
