Klitschko v Fury: Who the experts think will win in Germany

The wait is almost over as Tyson Fury will step into the ring on Saturday night in a bid to halt Wladimir Klitschko’s dominance of the heavyweight boxing scene.

The Ukrainian has put his IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO and The Ring titles on the line in Hannover and at 2/9 is fully expected to retain his straps.

However, during his near-10-year reign as champion Dr Steelhammer will rarely have faced an opponent as confident or physically imposing as Fury, who can be backed to cause an upset of mammoth proportions at 7/2.

Needless to say both men feel they will emerge victorious in this pay-per-view bout but what do the experts and celebrity fans think?

Read on to see where some of the biggest names in boxing – and one not so big – think the fight will be won.

Anthony Joshua

One man keeping a close eye on proceedings will be Britain’s Olympic gold medallist Anthony Joshua. AJ will hope to fight the winner in the near future and while admitting it’s a tough one to call the Watford fighter is tipping a win for the champion,

“The fight will be action-packed right from round one. I think Fury will come out with nothing to lose. His style is to throw a lot of punches but ultimately think Klitschko’s class will shine through and he will win,” he told Sky Sports.

Eddie Chambers

American Chambers knows all too well the task facing Fury in Germany, having fought Klitschko for the titles back in 2010. Fast Eddie took the champ all the way to 12th round but a late knockout meant he was unable to even see how the judges had scored the bout.

However, despite seeing Dr Steelhammer’s force up close Chambers is backing an upset.

Deontay Wilder

As the man holding the only heavyweight belt Klitschko doesn’t own WBC king Wilder won’t care who wins as long as he gets to fight the winner for a chance to be crowned undisputed champion. Wilder sees no reason why Fury cannot win the fight, providing he’s done all the right things in training, saying: “I can see a new champion arriving, but again it’s all going to depend on what mentality and what dog they bring with them to that fight, that night. That’s what it’s going to boil down to.”

Freddie Flintoff

Not many heavyweights retire with a 100 per cent record but with a resume reading 1-0-0 Freddie Flintoff can think of himself as up there with the greats. In all seriousness though the Ashes-winning cricketer had the stones to give the sport a try and is perhaps better placed than most armchair fans to give his verdict and the Lancashire man is in no doubt who will win.

Tony Bellew

Bellew is undecided on which way this one is going, arguing that as the fight goes on it will play into Fury’s hands. He’s not doubting Fury’s power and is one of the few backing the Brit to win by KO.

Talking to Sky Sports he said: “I am going to stick my neck on the line and say Fury knocks him out in the seventh or eighth. Or a better way to put it – Klitschko wins early, Fury wins late.”
