Kamara: Leicester’s season not totally reliant on Jamie Vardy

Published:

I’ve made no secrets in the past of how big a fan of Jamie Vardy I am, and you’d have to say Leicester may struggle to keep hold of him in the next couple of transfer windows if he keeps this form up.

But he’s not the only goalscorer they’ve got in their team.

We had Kasper Schmeichel on Goals on Sunday last week and he told us that there are players who are not in the team at the moment who are desperate to play, but with Vardy playing as he is, they just cannot get in.

Riyad Mahrez has scored plenty of goals as well, and I’m sure Leonardo Ulloa will get off the mark for the season in no time at all.

It’s been interesting to see Claudio Ranieri with such a set line-up. The Tinkerman has hardly tinkered this season, just making one or two changes.

At this moment in time, if you take Jamie Vardy’s goals out, of course they look like they will struggle but that’s not to say that the players waiting in the wings cannot fill the void that he would leave, only time will tell on that level.

As far as Vardy goes though the way Kasper spoke of him showed how highly they rate their star man and how impressed the team have been with his progression.

When he first arrived at the football club he came with a big price tag for a player that had only played in non-league.

He then played in the Championship and coped magnificently, before stepping up to the Premier League.

He’s obviously delivered enough at that level to be deemed worthy of an international call-up and the improvement he’s shown has been impressive.

We’ve seen it before with late developers, not everybody is a star at 17, 18 or 19.

You get it occasionally with players coming into the game late and performing magnificently, and he is one of those.

There are of course going to be teams knocking on Leicester’s door in January, but I’m sure they will be wanting to get him on a long-term contract and then if another wants him they are going to have to pay through their nose for him.
