Horizons widening for St Johnstone as ropey start is fully exorcised

When St Johnstone reached the six-game mark in the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership having collected only five points, the season’s outlook was a tad grey in colour. However, having subsequently quadrupled that tally over the next seven games, the future is far brighter for the Saints.
Tommy Wright and his troops deserve enormous credit for transforming their fortunes and St Johnstone fans would be excused from dreaming of a top-three finish or potential silverware in the domestic cups.
The Pride of Perthshire moved up to season’s high position of fourth in the league courtesy of a convincing 4-2 away triumph at Hamilton Academicals – a fifth consecutive win on the road in all competitions.
Although Aberdeen (4/7) and Hearts (6/4) are still some way ahead of the 28/1-rated Saints in the market without Celtic, only an unexpected blemish at home to Partick in mid-October has interrupted a six-game winning streak in all competitions.
Victory over the Accies capped a memorable week for Wright’s men, who booked a League Cup semi-final spot in equally unerring fashion as they’d halted Rangers long unbeaten run in the round before.
St Johnstone left Championship Morton 3-1 winners, as they had Ibrox, and although the draw has yet to be made with one tie yet to be decided, the final is within touching distance.
While the cups are sure to provide more excitement down the line, the Saints’ superb Premiership form is sure to be delighting the McDiarmid faithful most heading into November.
There have been star performers at both ends of the pitch too. Only Bhoys striker Leigh Griffiths has bagged more top-flight goals than experienced St Johnstone forward Steve MacLean, who has racked up nine.
MacLean is a 10/1 chance to top the Ladbrokes Premiership scoring charts.
Meanwhile, having joined on loan from Celtic Park, Darnell Fisher’s quality in defence is also paying dividends for Wright’s ever-improving side.
After defeating the Accies Wright was careful not to overplay expectations, but it is no secret that St Johnstone are on the up.
