Chelsea v Dynamo Kiev: Blues to secure hard-fought win

Published:

Chelsea’s implosion this season looks set to slow this week, with the Blues hosting a Dynamo Kiev side that has struggled on the road in Europe of late.

The Ukrainians recorded a 2-0 win over Maccabi Tel Aviv last time they travelled in the Champions League, but that was just a third victory in eight attempts away from the NSC Olimpiyskiy.

In contrast, Chelsea have lost just two of their last 20 home games in the Champions League and despite their current woes the Premier League champions will be confident of picking up a morale-boosting win.

The betting certainly suggests as much, with the hosts billed as 7/10 favourites with Ladbrokes and Kiev priced up as the 9/2 underdogs.

The draw – a repeat of the reverse fixture last month – can be backed at 13/5 but there is better value out there thanks to Ladbrokes’ latest Price Boost.

A Chelsea win with both teams scoring has been boosted from 5/2 to 3/1 and with the visitors netting in each of their last nine Champions League games on the road Chelsea will do well to have it all their own way.

The west Londoners have scored in each of their last 10 home games in the competition, last drawing a blank against Manchester United in September 2011, and can be relied upon to hold up their end of the bargain.

As for where the Blues’ goals will come from Diego Costa remains the main man at Stamford Bridge and the Spain international can be backed at 7/2 to open the scoring.

Should he achieve the feat inside 25 minutes, however, Ladbrokes could pay out at a whopping 7/1 thanks to the famous Sharp Shooter promotion.*
