Can Che Chesterman do a James Arthur to win the X Factor?

Che Chesterman has understandably drifted to 8/1 to win the X Factor after needing to be saved in the sing-off over Anton Stephens to reach the last five of the competition.
However, if there is ever a good week to find yourself towards the bottom of the vote, history suggests that this is the one.
Only once in the previous 11 series of the X Factor has an act recovered from being saved in the sing-off to win the show and James Arthur was given his pass in the same week. Interestingly, there is already a link between the two, given both Che and James sang songs by Alicia Keys when progressing through the sing-off.
JLS and Olly Murs also required the help of the judges to avoid being sent home and they were rescued in this identical week too to finish second.
There are also some reasons for optimism in the song choices for the quarter final.
Che has certainly not been helped by show producers so far by being given a collection of songs to perform that were released in the 1960s, which obviously fail to make him look especially modern or mainstream.
The Marvin Gaye hit ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’ formed part of a mash up in week one, it was another Motown classic with ‘You Can’t Hurry Love’ in week two, ‘When A Man Loves A Woman’ followed in week three and then ‘Yesterday’ by The Beatles in the fourth week.
Jukebox weekend is the theme for the quarter finals, with one song chosen through a Twitter vote. Che’s possible tracks provide an opportunity to show a more mainstream edge.
Recent number one ‘Hello’ by Adele is among the options this time, alongside ‘Runnin’ by Naughty Boy. John Lennon’s Jealous Guy makes up the trio of choices.
It is usually an eye-opener for voters when one of the best singers end up towards the foot of the vote and Che stands a great chance of being boosted up the rankings in the same way.
Through her superior staging, song choices and praise from the judges, it is fairly obvious to the majority of X Factor watchers that 4/9 favourite Louisa Johnson is the act that the show is pushing to win.
But there is a danger that this is ploy is too obvious, just as it was with Fleur East last year.
Should Louisa be neglected by voters as a form of revolt, Che looks the prime candidate to profit from this.
