Buoyant Hibernian will fear no one in League Cup semis

Hibernian’s stunning form showed no sign of abating when Dundee United became the latest Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership scalp for Alan Stubbs’ men, who are unlikely to fear any name they next pull out of the hat for the League Cup semis.
United went down 3-0 at Easter Road to join high-flying Aberdeen as the Championship side’s second top-flight victims in the competition this season.
Hibs could yet draw heavy 8/15 favourites Celtic in the last four, but having chalked off a 12th win in 13 matches to maintain their lengthy unbeaten streak, even a tie against the Premiership champions won’t phase the Edinburgh outfit.
Such dazzling form could even make the second-tier side the ones to avoid, although St Johnstone (5/1) are another team making moves in the Premiership and alongside Ross County, also at 5s and just one place below the Saints in fifth, the pair complete a particularly formidable trio of potential opponents.
Given the calibre of sides yet to face it makes sense that Stubbs’ outfit bring up the rear in the betting at 6/1, ahead of Monday’s draw.
However, there will be plenty of punters tempted into a wager on Hibs to add a fourth League Cup trophy to the club’s list of honours.
Few outsiders can be considered quite as lively as Hibernian in their current fettle, especially with a goal-scoring sensation such as 20-year-old academy product Jason Cummings in their midst.
Proving his breakthrough 2014/15 campaign was in no way a one-off, Cummings’ 61st-minute penalty to double Hibs’ lead over the Terrors took the striker to 12 goals in 17 appearances this season.
Such prolific returns could be crucial to turning a fantastic run into a memorable season for his club on a couple of fronts.
